The Phoenix Project – DevOps Simulation Game is based on the book, The Phoenix Project. Your challenge during this one-day simulation game is to use and apply DevOps principles in a difficult business environment. In a small group (8–12 participants) and over three rounds, you will work on IT projects and issues and ensure that “The Phoenix Project” will be finished on time. But, beware! The business keeps coming along with new ideas and demands. Plus, external developments outside your control can also throw a spanner in the works.

Short summary
Businesses are demanding ever shorter release cycles for new applications. Traditionally “Operations” is seen as a barrier with lengthy bureaucratic controls and delays in provisioning production systems. DevOps is a growing movement for shortening development and deployment and integrating Development and Operations. However, this requires a mindset shift, new behaviors, and a cultural shift in both Development and Operations. Traditionally suspicious of each other, they must now work closely together. Yet many companies are struggling to adopt and deploy DevOps and how change their culture. This is because, while DevOps is not that difficult to understand, it does have a huge impact on the way people need to behave. It’s also often seen as a technology solution – automated coding, deployment, testing – rather than an approach, a philosophy based on principles.
The Phoenix Project – DevOps Simulation Game is based on the book, The Phoenix Project: Parts Unlimited is in trouble. Newspaper reports reveal the poor financial performance of the organization. The only way forward to not only save the company but to make it competitive and profitable is “The Phoenix Project” which represents an IT-enabled business transformation, with Retail Operations as the business owner of this project. The VP of IT Operations is asked to take the lead of the IT department and ensure that “The Phoenix Project” will be a success. But the VP of IT Operations is facing a tremendous amount of work. There is a huge backlog of issues, features, and projects.
Your team will act in different roles within the Parts Unlimited organization. You can be Retail Operations, Human Resources, or Finance – playing the business roles of the company. Or you can be the VP of IT Operations or other members of his IT team that needs to develop the applications and solve the IT issues.

After your registration has been confirmed, you are still able to change the date up to 20 days before the first day of the training. You are able to do this once. Please send your request to academy@devon.nl or call +31(0)15-24 11 900 for further assistance.
Two weeks before each training, we will check if we have enough participants for the training course to be valuable and continue. If this is not the case, we will inform you by e-mail, with options for a new date and location. After this notification, you will have the right to cancel or change your registration within 5 working days.
On the website you can choose to pay via iDeal, creditcard or by invoice with a payment period of 30 days.
Most of our courses are available in both English and Dutch. We have a selection of training courses which are only available in English, which will be on that training page. Our rule of thumb for courses in the Netherlands is – the course is in English unless everybody speaks Dutch, then the course is in Dutch. If you want to be sure you are in a Dutch course, please get in touch with academy@devon.nl in case the information on a specific date is not available on the course page.
Unless mentioned otherwise, the course fee includes the cost of training material, exam cost, the use of the location, catering and parking.
